Dutch Highlights - 8 days

Day 1 - Arrival in AmsterdamThis tour starts and ends in Amsterdam, the city of canals, museums, parks and bikes. The 17th century city centre with its small streets and canals is very worth seeing, and also a very interesting place for cyclists. Day 2 - Amsterdam to Zaandam - 35 kmThe bike tour starts with a tour through Amsterdam along canals, monuments and museums. After crossing the IJ you leave the city. You cycle through the nature and recreation area 't Twiske and the peat meadow area with the typical wooden houses and saw mills to the Zaanse Schans. Here you can visit several museums, mills still running, old Dutch crafts and Zaan houses. You spend the night in Zaandam.Day 3 - Zaandam to Noordwijk aan Zee - 49 kmAlong the Noorzeekanaal and through the vast dune landscape of National Park Kennemerland you cycle to Haarlem. The historic city center of Haarlem, surrounded by canals, is characterized by many old streets and monuments from the 16th to 19th centuries, such as the St. Bavo church. Then you cycle through the extensive dunes to the seaside town of Noordwijk.Day 4 - Noordwijk aan Zee to Delft - 51 kmYou cycle to Delft via Leiden and The Hague. Leiden is the oldest student city in the Netherlands and experienced an enormous flowering period in the Golden Age. The Hague is the residence of the royal family and Delft is the city of Willem van Oranje, "the father of the country."Day 5 - Delft to Rotterdam - 25 km (roundtrip to Kinderdijk possible - 17 or 34 km)You cycle to Rotterdam via the small 'gin' town of Schiedam. After the destruction by the German bombing in WWII, many damaged buildings were replaced by new buildings. Rotterdam is therefore a modern city with skyscrapers: 'Manhattan on the Maas'. You can also make a tour to Kinderdijk. Nowhere in the world are there as many mills together as here.Day 6 - Rotterdam to Nieuwkoop - 55 kmFrom Rotterdam you cycle to Gouda, the city known for its Gouda cheese. Gouda has a beautiful historic center with a canal system and of course a cheese market. After this you cycle along beautiful cycle paths along the Reeuwijkse Plassen and the Nieuwkoopse Plassen via Bodegraven to Nieuwkoop.Day 7 - Nieuwkoop - Amsterdam - 43 kmYou drive along narrow cycle paths along Nieuwkoopse Plassen. From Uithoorn you follow the river Amstel via Ouderkerk aan de Amstel to Amsterdam. You will return to the city center through architecturally interesting, late 19th-century neighborhoods.Day 8 - Departure
