Calamity Fund

The Calamity Fund is a Dutch foundation with the aim of providing financial support to travelers whose already started trip is interrupted due to a calamity. In the event of a threat of a calamity, the Stichting Calamiteitenfonds Reizen determines whether coverage restrictions apply to a particular holiday destination. Travelers who have not yet departed may, under certain conditions, cancel free of charge from 30 days before departure. The Calamity Fund covers any additional costs that arise if the trip needs to be adjusted. If the trip must be cut short, the fund provides compensation for the unused travel days.

Calamiteitenfonds

Eigen-Wijze Reizen B.V./Happy Cycling Holidays (Chamber of Commerce no. 06053735) is affiliated with the Dutch Travel Calamity Fund Foundation (Stichting Calamiteitenfonds Reizen).

Within the scope of the Calamity Fund guarantee scheme, the travel arrangements published on this website are covered by the Calamity Fund guarantee.

This guarantee means that, as a traveller participating in a trip organised by us to which the guarantee applies, you are entitled to:

  • receive a refund of (part of) your travel sum if we are unable to carry out the trip, or are unable to carry it out in full, as a result of a calamity;
  • be reimbursed for any necessary additional costs if, as a result of a calamity, we are required to amend the trip or arrange your early repatriation.

A calamity is defined as an abnormal event caused by civil unrest or a natural disaster. In other words, it concerns an exceptional situation caused by civil unrest or a natural disaster that is highly unusual in the destination country during a particular period.

Example: snow in the Alpine countries during winter is normal. However, a lack of snow is not considered a natural disaster and therefore does not qualify as a calamity.

The Calamity Fund contribution applies to travel agreements and other agreements that are offered and concluded on the Dutch market and to which the ANVR travel conditions of participants in the Calamity Fund apply. The statement on the booking form, “The conditions of the guarantee scheme of the Stichting Calamiteitenfonds Reizen also apply to this agreement,” serves as proof of coverage for the traveller.

Mandatory contribution

All ANVR tour operators participate in the Calamity Fund. As a traveller, you pay the mandatory contribution of €2.50 per booking (for a maximum of 9 travellers).

No Calamity Fund contribution is due for bookings under €150, or for bookings for transport or accommodation within the Netherlands. In those cases, travellers are still covered in the event of a calamity. Individual rental agreements, such as car rental, are not covered by the guarantee scheme.
