From Deventer, you cycle along the IJssel River, passing the Nieuw Rande and De Haere estates before reaching the village of Olst, where you cross the river by ferry. Continuing north, you follow the river past the dyke village of Veessen, known for its windmill and river harbour. Here, you can take a ferry to Fortmond, a beautiful nature reserve interlaced with ancient waterways. The view from the watchtower is truly stunning. From the charming old village of Wijhe, you continue along the riverbank. A cycle ferry then takes you to the picturesque town of Hattem, home to the Anton Pieck Museum. Mostly riding on traffic-free dyke paths, you pass natural floodplains and the former Windesheim monastery before arriving in Zwolle. Surrounded by a moat, this atmospheric Hanseatic city is known for its Museum de Fundatie, an art route, the Broerenkerk, also called the “Book Church”, and excellent restaurants, making it a cultural and culinary highlight.
