Groningen and Friesland Culinary - 4 days

Day 1 - Arrival in Groningen and possibility for a round trip to Aduard - 28 kmAfter arriving in Groningen, take a bike ride to Aduard. This was once the home of the largest monastery in the Northern Netherlands. Along the Reitdiep, you cycle back into the city. You will pass the Martini Tower, the Grote Markt and the Groninger Museum.Day 2 - Groningen to Beesterzwaag - 57 kmFrom Groningen, you cycle to the area around the Leekstermeer lake. You then cycle through the small-scale farming landscape of northern Drenthe to the cosy Brink in Roden. On the way to the forest-surrounded Frisian village of Bakkeveen, a dolmen pops up just like that. Via Ureterp, you cycle to Beetsterzwaag, near Drachten.Day 3 - Beesterzwaag to Dokkum - 59 kmYou will cycle to the National Park De Alde Feanen, with quiet cycle paths and ferries. The centre of Leeuwarden is perfect for a short city walk or lunch. You then cycle along the Elfsteden route along the Dokkumer Ee to Dokkum. You will of course pass the famous little bridge of Bartlehiem and the cosy little harbour of Burdaard. In Dokkum, you will spend the night in the Old Abbey.Day 4 - Dokkum to Groningen - 45 km and departureAlong the busy Dokkumer Grootdiep, you cycle to National Park Lauwersmeer in summer. On beautiful cycle paths through this vast nature reserve, you cycle to the former fishing village of Zoutkamp, with the Fisheries Museum in the old inner harbour. You then pass through Houwerzijl, with the only tea museum in the Netherlands. Via the circle village of Niehove, voted the most beautiful village in the Netherlands by Elsevier in 2019, you cycle back to Groningen.
