On the first day of cycling, you’ll follow the tree-lined banks of the Gooi region, passing through the fortified towns of Naarden and Muiden, home to the medieval Muiderslot castle. From there, you continue to Amsterdam, cycling through the city center and crossing the IJ river by ferry. Just beyond Amsterdam, you enter Waterland, an area known for its bird-rich peat meadows, historic waterways, and ferries. In the island village of Marken, time appears to have stood still. You can reach Volendam or Katwoude by boat or via Monnickendam.
