Day 1 - Arrival in MiddelburgThe cycling holiday begins and ends at Walcheren in pleasant Middelburg, a city with more than 1200 monuments from the 16th and 17th centuries. Middelburg was then one of the most important trading cities of the Low Countries.Day 2 - Middelburg to Sluis - 34 kmFrom Middelburg you cycle to Vlissingen where you cross the Westerschelde with the bicycle ferry to Zeeland Flanders. Via the charming village of Groede you drive to the fortified town of Sluis. Your hotel is in Aardenburg, a small city with a glorious past.Day 3 - Sluis to Knokke - 40 kmYou will soon cross the border with Belgium. You will reach medieval Bruges on quiet country roads. After a tour through the beautiful historic city center you will drive along the Damse Vaart to Damme, one of the most picturesque towns in Belgium. Further along cycle paths along Damse Vaart and the Leopold Canal, which is lined with stately poplars, you will arrive in the Flemish seaside resort of Knokke where you will spend the night.Day 4 - Knokke to Vlissingen - 40 km Just above Knokke lies the unique nature reserve the Zwin that was created by breakthroughs in the row of dunes on the North Sea coast. Via the Zwin you cycle back into the Netherlands. From Cadzand you follow a dune cycle path with regularly beautiful views of the beach and sea. Arrived in Breskens you will sail back to Walcheren. You will reach your hotel on the bicycle boulevard in the center of Vlissingen, the birthplace of the Netherlands' greatest sea hero, Michiel de Ruyter.Day 5 - Vlissingen to Burgh-Haamstede/Renesse - 54 kmThe next day of your cycling holiday you will cycle along cycle paths along the coast of Walcheren and you will pass beautiful seaside resorts such as Westkapelle and the elegant Domburg. The special light and the whimsical dune landscape were a source of inspiration for the painters Mondriaan and Jan Toorop. Between Domburg and Vrouwenpolder you drive through the fairy-tale nature reserve De Manteling. Nowhere are the deciduous trees as close to the coast as here. Then you cross the Oosterscheldekering. With its length of 3 kilometers and its 65 pillars, the Oosterscheldekering is the most impressive part of the Delta Works. Across the street you are in Schouwen-Duiveland where you spend the night in Burgh-Haamstede or Renesse.Day 6 - Burgh-Haamstede/Renesse to Goes - 52 or 59 kmAlong the bird-rich salt marshes and mud flats of the Oosterschelde, the largest National Park in the Netherlands, you cycle to Zierikzee. This small town, rich in trade, industry and fishing, has hundreds of monuments. You cross the Oosterschelde to Noord-Beverland over the 5-kilometer long Zeeland Bridge. Via the fishing village of Colijnsplaat and along the banks of the Oosterschelde you will arrive in Zuid-Beveland, where you sleep in beautiful Goes.Day 7 - Goes to Middelburg - 40 km and departureYou drive through the vast landscape of polders and dikes to the Veerse Meer. You will then arrive in Veere, where the warehouses and old streets still recall the mighty trading past of this water sports town. From Veere you cycle back to Middelburg and departure.
