Day 1 - Arrival in TrierThe Moselle and Saar cycle tour starts in the cycle route in Trier, the oldest city in Germany. In the historic center you can see the impressive Porta Nigra, the remains of an amphitheater and an enormous Romanesque cathedral. The city also houses the birthplace of Karl Marx.Day 2 - Transfer to Merzig - 61 km to TrierFor your first bike ride, take the train to Merzig and then cycle back along the banks of the Saar. You can shorten the cycle route yourself to have more time in Trier. In Mettlach you will find 250 years of ceramics from the world famous Villeroy & Boch in an old Benedictine Abbey.
Continue along a wonderful cycle path to picturesque Saarburg, with its high-lying castle, bell-foundry and waterfall in the center, surrounded by colorful houses. On the terraces you can enjoy 'Kaffee mit Kuchen' and then explore the city on foot. You will arrive in Konz, where the Saar and the Moselle meet.
You will return to Trier on a cycle path.
Day 3 - From Trier to Piesport, Trittenheim or Neumagen - 51/42/45 kmThe next day of your cycling holiday you leave the city and arrive in picturesque Pfalzel. After a visit to Schweich you can admire the Roman 'Villa Urbana' and excavations from Roman times in Longuich.
You spend the night in Trittenheim, Neumagen or Piesport.
Day 4 - From Piesport, Trittenheim or Neumagen to Zell - 61/70/67 kmAfter completing the Moselle meander with the rock massif of the 'Moselloreley', you will soon see the impressive castle ruins Landshut with the small old town of Bernkastel at its foot. At the next meander you will find striking Jugendstil houses in the lively double town of Traben-Trarbach. You can shorten the cycle route by 10 km by taking the train to Reil.
After a few rustic wine villages, you can shortly shorten a narrow river bend just before the Zell stop over a low wine hill. Zell is known for the 'Schwarze Katze' and the former castle of the Electors.
Day 5 - From Zell to Cochem - 36 kmA short cycle route will take you to the romantic resort of Cochem, where you will spend the night. Along the way you will pass the monastery ruins of Stuben and Beilstein, a jewel of a half-timbered town at the foot of the castle ruins of Metternich.
In addition to a wonderful walk through the Altstadt and on the Moselle Promenade, you can also visit the Reichsburg, rebuilt in late medieval style, or take the chairlift to the Pinnerberg for a beautiful panorama.
Day 6 - From Cochem to Koblenz - 45 kmYour last cycle route takes you along the now less erratic course of the Moselle along steep wine terraces to Koblenz, where the river flows into the Rhine.
If you have time during your cycling holiday, you should definitely visit the fairy tale castle Burg Eltz in the village of Moselkern. After 2 km of easy cycling and then a half-hour walk through the picturesque Eltzbachtal, the view of this wonderful castle suddenly unfolds before you cross the Moselle and cycle to the center of Koblenz.
After arriving at your hotel you can enjoy a stroll through the atmospheric Altstadt and the leafy promenades along the Moselle and the Rhine.
