Day 1 Arrival in LeeuwardenThe tour starts and ends in Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland. There are many monuments in the historic city center.Day 2 From Leeuwarden to Sneek 40 or 54 kmOn the first day of cycling you will pass the mound villages of Boksum, Weidum and Reduzum and see the first head-neck-trunk farms. After Jirnsum, you will cycle over the banks of the Sneekermeer to Sneek. On the same day you can take a tour to IJlst, the third of the eleven Frisian cities, and visit the sawmill De Rat, which is still in use.Day 3 From Sneek to Oudemirdum / Harich 34 or 50 kmThe next day you cycle straight through the Frisian lake area to the smallest fortified town of Sloten. Along the Slotermeer and through the Lycklamabos it continues to Oudemirdum, beautifully situated between the forest and the IJsselmeer.Day 4 From Oudemirdum / Harich to Workum 34 to 62 kmYou will cycle along the IJsselmeer for a long time. Via Stavoren, the oldest town in Friesland, you will arrive in Hindeloopen, both with beautiful 17th century houses. Then you drive along the Fluessen to Gaastmeer. You can reach the small water sports village with a bicycle and pedestrian ferry. Your hotel is in Workum, where a visit to the Jopie Huisman museum is certainly worthwhile.Day 5 From Workum to Franeker 55 kmThis cycling day you will cycle on a beautiful cycle path along the Flakke and Aldegeaster Brekken to Bolsward. This city, once situated on three mounds on the former Middelzee, has a beautiful center with canals and dozens of monuments. After this you will continue to Harlingen, the main port city of Friesland, which has a rich history and pleasant terraces on the water. Then you cycle on to the former university town of Franeker, with the oldest working planetarium in the world.Day 6 From Franeker to Dokkum 53 kmAfter Franeker, you cycle north on shell paths and narrow dyke roads through the polder Het Bildt. Past Nieuwebildtzijl you cycle along the sea dyke and through the villages of Ferwert and Birdaard you reach Dokkum, the most northern city in the Netherlands.Day 7 From Dokkum to Leeuwarden 26 or 40 km and departureOn the last cycling day you can first make a detour to Holwerd. You drive on the towpath along the Dokkumervaart through the famous Elfstedentocht village of Bartlehiem, before returning to Leeuwarden.
