Flanders Culinary - 7 days
Day 1 - Arrival in GhentYou start in Ghent, a beautiful car-free city with many historical highlights.Day 2 - Tour around Ghent - 54 kmThe tour from Ghent goes to Scheldeland, a green region to the east of Ghent. First you swing out of the city along the river Scheldt. Via Merelbeke you go to Wetteren with a beautiful church. You cross the Scheldt and cycle along the Scheldt back to Ghent. Day 3 - Ghent to Bruges - 60 kmYou leave Ghent along the Coupure. This was a busy trade route that connected Ghent with Bruges. You follow the Bruges canal for quite some time. In Meetjesland you will pass Lovendegem with a beautiful castle and Zomergem. You end in Bruges, with a historic city center that is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.Day 4 - Around Bruges - 30 kmToday a tour to Damme is on the program.
On the cozy Marktplein you will find the ornate town hall (15th century) and the statue of Jacob van Maerlant (Flemish poet). This is also the place where the rascal novel Tijl Uilenspiegel originated.Day 5 - Bruges to Roeselare - 54 kmA trip to the more southerly located Roeselare. First you cycle through the Bruges Ommeland, winding your way halfway through Torhout, the city of earthenware and mustard. You will spend the night in the center of Roeselare, with the late Gothic St. Michael's Church and the 18th century Louis XV style town hall.Day 6 - Roeselare to Ghent - 63 kmOn your last cycling day, head back to Ghent in a northeasterly direction. Soon you will pass through the center of Tielt with the Halletoren and beautiful town hall. In Kanegem you will find a statue of cyclist Briek Schotte. When cycling in Ghent you will pass the water sports and rowing course before you return to the beautiful center.Day 7 - Departure or extensionYour cycle tour ends after breakfast. You can of course extend your stay to better view the beautiful city of Ghent.
