As part of the Romantic Road, you start in Rothenburg and then cycle through the enchanting Altmühltal to the beautiful residential city of Ansbach, the Roman settlement of Weissenburg, and the baroque bishop’s city of Eichstätt. One street captures your heart even more than the next. And then, the Old Town of Beilngries and the ancient city of Regensburg are yet to come.

On this cycling tour, you leave the Romantic Road to dive into the beautiful Altmühltal. Here, the romance continues. Alongside stunning nature, you'll encounter medieval fortified towns, ancient monasteries, and castles. And imposing nature! Cycling along the Altmühl River, you'll come across impressive rock formations, such as the 12 Apostles, beautiful heathlands with junipers, and stunning riverside landscapes.

Not far from its source, the Altmühl flows through a wide valley, then meanders spectacularly along jagged limestone cliffs before joining the Danube. You cycle through a unique landscape with medieval fortified towns, picturesque half-timbered houses, and ancient castles. Rothenburg ob der Tauber, probably the best-preserved medieval fortified town in Germany, is the starting point of this journey. You finish in the beautiful, unspoiled Regensburg, with narrow streets and intimate squares in the medieval Old Town. A true recommendation!

  • 7 nights with breakfast or half board (5x half board, 2x breakfast)

Excluded

  • Return transfer from Regensburg to Rothenburg (reservation required by booking): on saturday by bus and in june and in september also on friday by bus. Departure at around 09:30 from your hotel in Regensburg. Costs: € 50 per person ans € 40 per bike.         Other days: by train, costs € 25,- per person (no transfer to the station included, 2 à 3 traintransfers). Please note: we advise not to travel with your bike in the train. 
  • On wednesday, thursday and saturday you can drop off your bikes at the hotel in Regensburg before 17:00 for a nighttransport. The bikes will then be ready the next day at your hotel in Rothenburg. Rental bikes you leave in Regensburg in your hotel.
  • Please note: dogs are not allowed on the bus.

  • Bicycle Insurance: you can take out a separate bicycle insurance with Happy Cycling Holidays. A travel insurance often does not cover bicycle damage and/or theft.

  • Parking: free, unsupervised parking at the train station
  • Half board: not possible on day 5 and 6. Dinner might also be served at a nearby restaurant
  • Beer package: in addition to half board, you can also choose the beer package: 3× half board and 3× beer tasting (Brewery Ansbach, Eichstätt, and Regensburg)
