Authentic Italy

Heading south, many visitors tend to overlook cities like Vicenza and Padova. A missed opportunity if you ask us, as these places truly embody the essence of Italy. On this journey, you’ll travel from Bolzano to Venice, following the Adige River—an easy, flat ride framed by the awe-inspiring Dolomites.

Venice on Land

After exploring Trento and taking a boat ride across Lake Garda, you'll reach Verona, famous for its ancient arena and the iconic balcony of Romeo and Juliet. In Vicenza, you’ll discover the architectural genius of Andrea Palladio. The city is often referred to as the "Venice on land" because of its many palazzi, elegant facades, and charming streets. In Padova, you’ll inevitably find yourself at Prato della Valle, a grand square with fountains and statues. It’s especially lively at the end of the day, when locals gather here. And to top it all off: Venice.

Elegant, Sleek, and Harmonious

In the 16th century, the visionary architect Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) gave Vicenza its distinctive character. His architectural style inspired many, including the designers of Buckingham Palace and The White House. A statue of Palladio stands beside the Basilica, his masterpiece, which is stunningly illuminated in the evening. He favored white, clean lines, and balance, with symmetry and a columnar design, all enriched with classical sculptures. His approach was a success then—and remains so today.

The People’s Stage

Prato della Valle is one of the largest squares in Europe, featuring lawns, water features, and about eighty statues of notable Italians. Each afternoon, the park becomes a lively open-air theater. Friends gather on the railing of a picturesque bridge to share the latest gossip, new romances blossom by the water, and neighbors engage in animated conversations on benches. It’s a perfect place to observe true Italian life.
