7 beauties to fall in love with: Discover Brittany by bike!

Brittany is a region in north-western France known for its breathtaking landscapes and charming villages. The region has a rich history and offers beautiful cycling routes to explore the area. In this blog, we take you on a cycling adventure through Brittany and share seven beauties you shouldn't miss during your cycling holiday Bretagne.

  1. Pink Granite Coast: raw and eccentric
The northern coast of Brittany is dominated by the ocean and offers a raw and eccentric landscape. A highlight of this coast is the Cotê de Granit Rose, or the Pink Granite Coast. This bizarre coastline was formed by thousands of years of erosion by sea, wind and sand. The enormous rocks have eccentric shapes and some resemble animals or objects, such as a rabbit or Napoleon's hat. A visit to this coast is a real must during your bike tour Bretagne.
  2. Famous 'Maison-entre-deux-roches'
On the second day of our cycling tour, we pass the hamlet of Plougrescant. Here you will find gigantic boulders and salty inland lakes, but the most iconic image is the house wedged between two enormous pebbles. This house is also known as “Maison-entre-deux-roches” and is a favourite subject for photographers.
  3. A magnificent jewel: Île-de-Bréhat
Île-de-Bréhat is the jewel of the Breton islands. This car-free island offers a relaxed atmosphere and beautiful nature. Here you will find winding roads, pristine beaches and picturesque villages. A highlight is the view from the church of Saint-Michel, where you have a beautiful view of the rugged coastline of Brittany.
  4. Hydrangeas and Agapanthu
Île-de-Bréhat is home to colourful hydrangeas and agapanthus, an African lily that symbolises the island. The northern part of the island has the characteristic rock formations that are so typical of the north coast of Brittany. Don't forget to enjoy a paper-thin crêpe at one of the charming terraces.
  5. Impressive old town: Josselin
In the south of Brittany, you will find the beautiful town of Josselin, dominated by the imposing Châteaux Rohan. This castle was built in the 11th century by the Rohan family and is still inhabited by descendants of the founders. The small centre of Josselin also has a lot to offer, such as the immense basilica and a charming terrace where you can enjoy a crêpe.
  6. Eye-catching beauty: Rochefort-en-Terre
The village of Rochefort-en-Terre is a gem in the interior of Brittany. This village is so beautiful that it has even been named one of the most beautiful villages in France. The car-free centre is dotted with boutiques, monuments and flower boxes. At Place Saint-Michel, you can enjoy the view of the passing day trippers.
  7. Historic harbour: Saint-Goustan
The historic port of Saint-Goustan is located at the mouth of the Auray river. Here you will find photogenic half-timbered houses and cosy terraces where you can enjoy a drink. Walk across the old bridge and climb the stairs to the high promenade for the most beautiful view of the harbour. In the 13th century, American President Benjamin Franklin stopped here for a meeting with King Louis XVI.
