After arriving or before leaving, you can walk around the former ramparts and past Aardenburg's historic buildings, such as St Baaf's Church, the only church in Scheldt Gothic in the Netherlands. You can visit the archaeological museum, where there is a lot of information about Aardenburg's illustrious past, including as a Roman fortress and in the Middle Ages as an important port. Behind the museum is a botanical garden. In the Wetstraat (with the only preserved city gate, the West- or Kaaipoort, at the end) you will find several beautiful old facades, such as of the 'Gouden Eykel' and the 17th century orphanage.
