Puglia - 8 days

Day 1 - Arrival in AlberobelloAlberobello is known for a large neighborhood with about 1400 'trulli'. 'Trulli' are small, round, square, whitewashed houses, in which you also spend the night. The conical roofs have tiles of the combined limestone. Since 1996, Alberobello has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.Day 2 - Alberobello to Ostuni - 44 kmIn the vast fertile plain of the Valle d'Itria, with vineyards and olive groves, the cones of the 'trulli' are increasingly appearing. Ostuni is also very worth seeing. This higher city has an old city center surrounded by Aragonese ramparts with white alleys. The cathedral is located on a pleasantly sloping square. This late Gothic church was built at the end of the 15th century and has both Romanesque and Gothic style features. From the upper city you have a beautiful view of the Adriatic coast.Day 3 - From Ostuni to Manduria - 60 kmLeaving Ostuni and the hills of the Murge behind, you reach the Salento plain. This plain is characterized by the green color of the olive trees and the red of the earth. Along the way you will have the chance to visit Oria with its beautiful historic center and the castle built by Emperor Federico II. You spend the night in the vicinity of Manduria, the capital of the Primitivo grape.Day 4 - From Manduria to Gallipolli - 70 kmToday you will soon reach the Ionian coast with its ancient towers and fine sandy beaches. Via Porto Cesario you cycle to Gallipoli. The Greeks already knew it when they came up with the name for this place. They called this harbor town kalé pólis, beautiful city. The Italians corrupted the name into Gallipoli, but the beauty of the town with the white houses, flat roofs and colored fishing boats was preserved. Day 5 - Gallipolli to Di Leuca - 52 kmThen you cycle further along the coast to the southernmost tip of Santa Maria di Leuca. A whole day dedicated to the sea, with all the scents and colors on the Mediterranean coast, pine trees, myrtle and juniper. At intervals the background is the Ionian Sea with bays, beaches and coves.Day 6 - Di Leuca to Otranto - 52 kmThe next day you take a bike ride on the coastal road along the Adriatic Sea. At Castro you can visit the Grotta Zinzulusa and Sant Cesarea Terme is known as a health resort with sources of healing properties. Your overnight stay is Otranto, a pleasant town with a beautiful old town and a harbor.Day 7 - Otranto to Lecce - 54 kmOn your last cycling day you will pass the Alimini lakes and the nature park 'le Cecine' before you reach Lecce. This beautiful cultural city with a Roman amphitheater is sometimes called the 'Florence of the Baroque'. Day 8 - Departure or extension
