Via Eersel, one of the oldest villages in the Netherlands, you cycle eastward. On the village green, shaded by majestic linden trees, stands the 15th-century Maria Chapel and a beautiful church tower dating from 1400. Eersel is one of the "Acht Zaligheden" ("Eight Blessings"), a playful twist on the word for "bliss" — eight Kempen villages whose names end in “-sel.” After visiting the charming village center of Bergeijk, you cross the De Maaij nature area. Following the Keunense Loop stream, you arrive in the village of Luyksgestel. The longer route also takes you to the De Malpie nature reserve just south of Valkenswaard, with heathlands, fens, and old wooded sand dunes. Through the Kempen forests, over the Cartierheide, and past the Chapel of the Children on the Ten Vorsel Estate, you return to your hotel.
