Eu - Le Tréport

In the north of Normandy lies the twin town of Eu-Le Tréport. Le Tréport is a lively harbor town with seafood restaurants and many 19th-century houses. Across the harbor you'll find Mers-les-Bains, known for its remarkable Art Nouveau villas. Eu features a charming market square and a beautiful 16th-century château. Your comfortable château hotel is set on a peaceful estate and offers an outdoor jacuzzi, beauty salon, and fitness room. » read more about Eu - Le Tréport

Freedom and Joy in Normandy

Breathe in the fresh sea air at the white chalk cliffs along the Norman coast. From Le Tréport, you cycle to seaside town Ault, where you'll once again come face to face with the iconic cliffs. The same steep cliffs that the Allies had to conquer under heavy fire during D-Day to restore freedom to Europe. That sense of freedom is something you’ll feel every single day of this cycling holiday. And joy, too — especially when visiting beautiful castles like the 16th-century Château de Blangy. A royal feeling that continues during your stay at the château hotel in Eu-Le Tréport.

Charming Villages, Untouched Valleys

From this twin town, you make loop rides through the surrounding area. To St. Martin-en-Campagne, with a stop at the gardens (and château) of Cotelle. On other days, you head to the fortified town of St-Valéry-sur-Somme and ride through the unspoiled valleys of the Yères and the Bresle. And in the charming villages of Cuverville and Sept-Meules, you may hesitate: get off the bike or keep pedaling? Ah, freedom and joy: “Monsieur, I’ll have a café crème, please.”

Magnificent Garden

That it's not only the British who excel at creating beautiful and atmospheric gardens is proven by the artistic Catherine Cotelle. In the village of Derchigny-Graincourt, you park your bike at her romantic and picturesque garden — a stunning result of a collaboration between a horticulturist and a visual artist. Artistic as she is, Catherine already had the layout of the garden in mind; she knew exactly which plants and flowers would best complement the house. Painter Frédéric was delighted by the color combinations among the perennials, such as the roses. The result is a magnificent garden, modest in size but rich in charm. So hop off your bike and enjoy.

A Remarkable Duo

The town of Eu is centuries old, while Le Tréport gained fame as a seaside resort only about 150 years ago. Yet together, they form a perfectly balanced pair. Le Tréport, with its abbey and long pebble beach, moves to the rhythm of the sea. Its fishing and marina harbors are bustling every day. Across the river, Eu boasts — after Rouen — the greatest wealth of historical buildings in Normandy. It was here, in 1050, that William the Conqueror married Matilda of Flanders. Just so you know. Renowned French and European families added to the splendor. King Louis-Philippe even hosted Queen Victoria twice in his château. “Ah, ma cher amie.” Today, the château showcases the lives of its famous residents, including La Grande Mademoiselle Anne-Marie-Louise of Orléans, a first cousin of King Louis XIV.
