On the first day of cycling, you pass the fortress of Heinfels and cross a beautiful covered wooden bridge. In the Puster Valley, cycling is easy, with steep, rugged mountains rising beside you and numerous tributary streams. Most villages are nestled on sunny southern slopes. The churches in Strassen, Thal, and Abfeltersbach stand out for their architecture and frescoes. The old town of Lienz boasts two castles. Via Dölsach, the Roman site of Aguntum, and through the ‘Tyrolean Gate,’ you reach the small town of Oberdrauburg in Carinthia.
