Day 1 - Arrival in SienaArrival in Siena with the famous 'il Campo' square.Day 2 - Siena to San Donato - 47 kmOn your first day of cycling you will ride through the Chianti hills where the famous vines are interspersed with dense oak forests. Along the way you can visit a beautiful sculpture park. You will pass through Castellina in Chianti, a 14th century Florentine town. You reach your hotel in the medieval walled village of San Donato via a nice long descent.Day 3 - San Donato to Florence - 47 kmYou will cycle through the wooded hills via the villages of Sicelle and la Piazza to the river Pesa. Following this, you will follow a panoramic ridge past the wine-growing village of Panzano and the borgo of Mercatale. After the river Greve you climb through the forest to Impruneta, which is decorated with terracotta pots and vases that are made here. You will peacefully cycle into Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance.Day 4 - Walking tour Florence - 6 or 11 kmDuring this walking tour through the Renaissance city of Florence, you will walk from highlight to highlight. Passing the Palazzo Pitti with the Boboli Gardens, you arrive at the Ponte Vecchio. You then begin the ascent to the hilltop Basilica di San Miniato al Monte. You have a beautiful view of the city. Then you descend back to the center where you can admire the cathedral with Brunelleschi's famous red dome up close. You will walk back to your hotel past the Galleria dell'Accademia with Michelangelo's David and the Uffizi with the works of Botticelli.Day 5 - Florence to San Gimignano - 60 kmAt the beginning of this cycle route you can visit the monastery of Certosa. After this you cross the valleys of the Pesa and Elsa and high in the hills the beautiful towns of San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Barberino Val d'Elsa. Finally, there is a climb through the Vernaccia wine-growing region to the cool, medieval tower town of San Gimignano. Your hotel is located on a beautiful square within the ancient walls.Day 6 - San Gimignano to Volterra - 40 kmIn the beautiful wooded Tuscan hills you will discover a special monastery near San Vivaldo. The chapels are placed there as the church cross of Jerusalem. The route ends in Volterra, located on a ridge, which was already walled by the Etruscans. The many monuments of this place, which has been inhabited for 3000 years, include a Roman amphitheatre. Your hotel with a swimming pool among the olive trees has a view of the sea.Day 7 - Volterra to Sovicille 60 kmYou cycle through open hills with great views over grain fields, sheep pastures and farm houses. The center of Casole d'Elsa offers you an attractive break. You reach Sovicille through a densely wooded landscape. You spend the night in a farmhouse where you can enjoy a delicious meal.Day 8 - Sovicille to Montalcino - 58 kmAbove the wide valley of the Ombrone you will cycle through green hills. The village of Murlo and the Castello of Bibiano are the cultural gems. After crossing the Ombrone you climb to the panoramic hill town of Montalcino, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards (Brunello).Day 9 - Roundtrip to Abbazia di Sant Antimo - 28 or 45 kmDescending, you reach the village of Castelnuovo Dell'Abate with the beautiful Romanesque abbey church of Sant Antimo. Then you cycle through the vineyards and the hills back to Montalcino. During the long variant, you will visit the prestigious Balfi wine estate where you can reward yourself with a regal lunch.Day 10 - Montalcino to Asciano - 46 kmYou cycle into the Crete Senesi, a wonderful, eroded hill country. Here and there is an oasis like the Benedictine abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore hidden between cypresses. The frescoes in the cloister are among the most beautiful. You spend the night in Asciano with a museum of sacred art next to the Romanesque basilica.Day 11 - Asciano to Siena - 33 kmOn the last day of your cycling holiday, you will continue through the Crete Senesi to Siena, which you can see from afar. It is a short route so that you still have time to see this beautiful city.Day 12 - Departure
