Andalusia - The White Villages - 8 days
The route for the lighter variant goes east. A beautiful road takes you to the highest point, the beautiful "Mirador", a lookout point with views to El Burgo. You cycle in the green valley of the "Sierra Blanquilla" and on the Sierra de las Nieves mountain range with the highest peak "Torrecilla" of 1918 m in the south.
The heavier variant goes through the area south of Ronda. From Ronda you go towards Algeciras. You cycle past imposing, bare rocks. From Alpandeire the landscape becomes more lush and the villages follow each other quickly.Day 3 - Olvera 33, 50 or 62 kmThis stage is a varied cycle route on mostly small roads with little traffic. In beautiful Setenil, hidden in the gorge of the Rio Trejo, you will find a large number of houses carved into the rocks. Not yet discovered by the travel guides, only few tourists come here.
The longer version goes along Ronda la Vieja, the ancient Roman theater of Ronda, which is certainly worth a short visit.Day 4 - Zahara - 41 or 53 kmToday you cycle towards the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, rich in flora and fauna, with many vultures nest in the inaccessible gorges. You often see them floating around.
From Olvera you first cycle on Via Verde, the nature-award-winning cycle path of Andalusia on a former railway line.
Just after Algodonales you cycle to the reservoir of Zahara. There you will cross a dam with fantastic views of your final destination of today, Zahara.Day 5 - Grazalema - 35 or 48 kmToday you will go to Grazalema, one of the most popular white villages with a beautiful village square, old churches and several restaurants and bars in narrow alleys. It lies beautifully against the flanks of a rocky mountain.
After this village there is an extension for the heavier variant to one of the most famous passes in the region, at an altitude of 1200 meters!Day 6 - Round trip to Benaocaz 38 or 57 km or walk Sierra de Endrinal for approx. 2 hoursTwo suggestions for an active day of rest: the "Sierra de Endrinal" hike. It is not such a long mountain hike, but the start is quite steep.
Or you can take a bike ride to Benaocaz (light tour) or El Bosque (heavy tour). On this tour you will have to take into account a 15 km climb! Day 7 - To Ronda - 52 or 61 kmThe day starts with a beautiful route through the stony and cork oak forests. Then you turn to take a fairy-tale road that literally runs through a spectacular "canyon". Then you cycle through Montejaque and Benaoján, where you can relax on one of the terraces from the short but steep climb out of the "canyon".Day 8 - Departure or extensionYou get a transfer to the airport of Malaga and you go home, or you extend your holiday in Ronda.
