First, you cycle to Hindeloopen, a town surrounded on three sides by the IJsselmeer. This old seafaring and fishing village has its own dialect, traditional costume, and distinctive painting style. Here, you’ll find narrow canals with wooden bridges and beautiful captain’s houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. Riding over and alongside the IJsselmeer dike, you continue on to Stavoren. This former Hanseatic city is one of the oldest towns in the Netherlands, founded around the year 900 and already an important trading center by the 11th century. You then cycle along the IJsselmeer towards the rolling forests of Rijsterbos in Gaasterland. Via Koudum, you return to Workum.
