Enjoy with a soft Limburg accent

“Through the years, Limburg has remained undisputed, the part of the Netherlands that is the most beautiful.” Whether Limburg truly is the prettiest part of the Netherlands, you’ll discover from the picturesque town of Weert. You’ll stay in the former Penitentiary Monastery, now a stylish and modern hotel. Thorn immediately impresses on your journey. The abbey church dominates the famous white town, and that semicircular gate in the foreground adds depth to your holiday photos. A beautiful sight!

Maasplassen and Groote Peel

Around the Maasplassen your camera will be busy snapping away. Thanks to the flower-rich meadows, dikes, lushly vegetated banks, and countless water birds. You’ll also visit National Park De Groote Peel and cross the border into Belgium. And at the end of the day: enjoy the excellent cuisine at your hotel.

Spotless White

Thorn feels like a village, but for eight hundred years it was a tiny principality ruled by abbess-princesses. More than thirty abbess-princesses held power here—until the French arrived in 1794. They introduced a tax: the larger your house windows, the more you had to pay. So what did the poor residents do? They bricked up their windows and disguised their poverty by whitewashing all the houses. And it’s precisely that spotless white that now draws many visitors.

Unique Nature Reserve

On the border of Limburg and North Brabant lies National Park De Groote Peel. Once a raised peat bog, it is now a vast and unique natural area. Unique because there are no highways, power lines, or other modern intrusions cutting through it. This makes it a haven for birds, with around one hundred species breeding here. Internationally, the park is recognized as a wetland and is also designated as a Natura 2000 area.
