Wildlife of the Veluwe

A true nature experience awaits you in the largest nature reserve in the Netherlands: the Veluwe. You’ll cycle over cattle grids and immediately be on the lookout for tracks of wild boar and deer. “Hey, psst, look over there!” You’ll definitely be gazing into the distance from the Posbank, with its stunning viewpoint over the heath.

Three beautiful routes

We’ve put together three scenic routes. One takes you through the Hoge Veluwe National Park to the Kröller-Müller Museum, home to the largest private Van Gogh collection in the world. Be sure to stop by the Museonder as well — it’s fascinating. Another route leads through Arnhem’s elegant parks and the stylish Roosendael to Veluwezoom National Park and the Posbank. The third tour crosses the Lower Rhine, offering views of De Blauwe Kamer, and takes you into the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. On the final day (or the first, if you prefer), enjoy one last ride with a visit to Doorwerth Castle. Take a break on a terrace to reflect on all those impressions over a cappuccino.

Best view

Park your bike at the futuristic Pavilion De Posbank. Inside, glass walls offer constant views of the surrounding greenery. The walking path spirals upward along the glass, leading all the way to the rooftop. Surprise — there's a tree growing right out of the roof! From here, you’ll enjoy a stunning panoramic view. The same goes for the nearby Posbank itself — a stone bench that gave this area its name. The bench was built in 1928 on a scenic lookout to mark the 25th anniversary of the ANWB. In the distance, you can see the winding IJssel River and beyond that: rolling hills and valleys.

Impressive Castle

Doorwerth is a medieval castle located in the floodplains of the Rhine. Since 1280, it has developed into an impressive complex featuring a main keep and an outer bailey. Originally, it was called Doorenweerd, named after the hawthorns in the floodplains. After 1800, it came into English hands. The British nobility changed the name to Doorwerth, which was easier to pronounce. During World War II, the castle was severely damaged, but after restoration, it has regained its former grandeur.

Park and Castle Rosendael

Park Rosendael is an extensive landscape park featuring ponds, waterfalls, unique tree species, shrubs, and potted plants. The park also houses the Shell Gallery, a water staircase with river gods, and the legendary Bedriegertjes (trickling fountains). The castle boasts beautifully furnished rooms and a castle kitchen. From the terrace of the Orangery, you have a view of the rose garden. A perfect spot to relax before you start the climb to the Posbank. Address: Rosendael 1, Rozendaal.
