Following the sources of the Berkel River, you cycle to the highest point of the Baumberge—the 187-meter-high Westerberg. Here, you can climb the Longinusturm for a spectacular panoramic view. Afterwards, you descend to the village of Havixbeck, located on the northern slopes of the Baumberge, home to a magnificent water castle and the fascinating Sandsteinmuseum. You’ll also visit Burg Hülshoff, set in a large park.
The historic bishop’s city of Münster is the capital of Münsterland and has been beautifully restored after the war. It’s an ideal place to stay longer and explore the impressive cathedral and other sights. Münster is also Germany’s cycling capital. You can take a scenic loop around the Altstadt along the Promenade on the old city walls. Inviting terraces by the water can be found at the large Aasee lake and the old city harbor. You can cycle to Münster and return by train, or cycle both ways.
