Along the Lahn

you can leisurely stroll along the banks of the Lahn, a tributary of the Rhine. But on the saddle, you'll discover so much more. Majestic castles, imposing monasteries, and stunning cities like the romantic Marburg. Before starting your journey, take a walk through the winding streets of this lively student city. Head up to the hilltop castle and make sure to pop into the beautiful Elisabeth Church.

Succumb to all the splendor

Then, slowly, you descend along the winding river. To Wetzlar, which generously showcases authentic baroque buildings and beautifully restored timber-framed houses. After Weilburg, also overflowing with baroque beauty, you reach the historic Limburg an der Lahn. Then, take a left towards Koblenz. A little further along the Rhine lies the famous Loreley. But the singing nymphs have no sway over you. After all, along the Lahn, you’ve already succumbed to all that city grandeur and natural beauty.

Auf Wiedersehen Limburg

The entire historic city center of Limburg an der Lahn is a protected monument. That already says a lot. You rest your bike against the façade of the St. Georg's Cathedral, which stands higher up. Around the church, you'll find many beautiful half-timbered houses, some of which are even eight hundred years old. This medieval character is something you'll encounter often in this hilly town with its many cobbled streets. You settle down at one of the cozy squares for Kaffee und Kuchen. Then, it's time to go again. From the 600-year-old stone bridge, you take one last look at the Romanesque cathedral. Auf Wiedersehen. You decide, "I'll definitely be back."

Optics City Wetzlar

Wetzlar is also abundant in centuries-old half-timbered houses. The cathedral proudly towers over the old town. As you wander through the atmospheric streets, you're sure to come across the giant Minox Spy Camera XXL, a life-sized version of the miniature camera that was invented here in 1936. The camera is part of the Optics Trail. Along with Leica, many producers of cameras and optical equipment are based here. Hence the nickname ‘City of Optics’. The trail allows you to explore the world of optics interactively. Here, you can peek inside a mini half-timbered house with a secret camera, take an eye test, or discover why a diamond sparkles.

Clichés in Koblenz

If you stay in the saddle all the way to Koblenz, the winding bike path will easily guide you to Das Deutsche Eck, the point where the Moselle meets the Rhine. For lunch, you'll find the shady Köningsbacher Biergarten just behind the impressive statue of Emperor Wilhelm I. And to fulfill all clichés, choose a Brötchen with a hearty Bratwurst. The beautiful view of the Moselle comes free of charge. For an even better view of the merging rivers, later hop onto the cable car across the Rhine to the much higher Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
