Highlights Along the Elbe

The Golden City, the Pearl of Europe, the Rome of the North... Prague has no shortage of recognition. The city has always been showered with colorful descriptions, and it’s no wonder given its wealth of architectural marvels. Baroque, Rococo, Romanesque, Gothic... churches and palaces adorned with intricate embellishments line up like a vibrant necklace. Take a stroll across the 500-meter-long Charles Bridge, which, with its statues and sixteen arches, connects the Old Town with the Malá Strana district.

Beautiful Along the Water

This highlight immediately sets the tone for the stunning cycling journey along the Vltava and Elbe rivers to the German city of Dresden, another magnificent highlight. Along the way, you’ll visit charming towns with names like Mělník, Litoměřice, Děčín, and Pirna. You’ll park your bike for a visit to a winery or another beautiful castle. Then comes Dresden, gloriously risen from the ashes.

Prague’s Astronomical Clock Brings You to the Moment

All streets in the Old Town, or Staré Město, lead to the Old Town Square, also known as Staroměstské Náměstí. And here, you're never alone. You'll see people strolling and horse-drawn carriages passing by. But it's at the famous astronomical clock that everyone pauses, waiting for the moment it comes to life. In that instant, you know everything: the time, day, and month, the alignment of the sun, moon, and stars, how Christ and the twelve apostles pass by, and how the Grim Reaper reminds us of our mortality.

Oldest Cable Car

Loschwitz, an upscale suburb of Dresden, is a scenic stop along your bike route from Prague to the historic heart of Dresden. In the 1920s and 1930s, this area was among the most expensive residential districts in Europe. Take a moment to secure your bike and enjoy a ride on the Schwebebahn, the world’s oldest suspension railway, dating back to 1901, which gently lifts you several hundred meters in just a few minutes. From the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Dresden, the Elbe River, and the iconic 'Blue Wonder' suspension bridge, built in 1893.

A Renewed Old Gem

Once in Dresden, you’ll of course visit the old town center, which has been completely rebuilt. You wouldn’t guess it, but around the square of the Frauenkirche, no facade is older than about fifteen years. Some (dark) stones of the church are still authentic, they were salvaged from the rubble of the bombings and reassembled like puzzle pieces in their original places. A little further on is the Zwinger, the Baroque orangery with fountains and statues. Just around the corner, you’ll find the Fürstenzug, an impressive 102-meter-long tile mural depicting all the Saxon rulers on horseback.
