Vive-le-bike in the Ardèche

The views over green mountain landscapes and the charming villages perchés add to the ultimate sense of freedom. No surprise that Liberté is part of the French motto – especially here in the Ardèche. France reveals itself at its most beautiful: authentic medieval villages and a truly magnificent landscape carved by wild rivers. It’s the setting for this scenic 8-day cycling tour along mostly quiet country roads.

Joie-de-vivre-feeling

Cycling from Vogüé to Vals-les-Bains and Sanilhac – and back to Vogüé, with occasional scenic loops – you’ll encounter deep gorges, rugged plateaus, limestone caves, and colourful forests. A festive journey for any cyclist who wants to combine natural adventure with that unmistakable French joie de vivre.

A Cycling Celebration

Along the way, you'll visit the artists’ village of Antraigues. Pedalling beside the mighty Ardèche River, the impressive Château de Ventadour soon comes into view. The journey continues to the medieval town of Largentière, then on to Lablachère, Labeaume, Tauriers, and the stunning Gorge de la Beaume. Names like these complete the French cycling celebration — just like those charming terraces on quiet village squares shaded by centuries-old plane trees. And what about the breathtaking view of the world-famous Pont d’Arc?

Iconic Arch Bridge

Just outside the village of Vallon-Pont-d’Arc lies the famous arch over the Ardèche River: the Pont d’Arc. This “bridge” is a natural wonder, carved out of limestone by the flowing water. During periods of high water and strong currents, the river continues to erode the rock — gradually enlarging the arch. Today, the natural bridge spans 59 metres in length, rises 54 metres high, and the opening through which the river flows measures an impressive 34 metres wide.
