Meandering along the Vltava

Meander along the Vltava and discover its enchanting surroundings. The starting point for this journey will be Ceské Budejovice, also known as Budweis. Huh, sound familiar? Indeed! The famous Budweiser beers are originally from here. Let's give it a try, though enjoy responsibly, as there are many cycling days ahead of us. On the second day you will need your full attention for Cesky Krumlow, the UNESCO pearl of South Bohemia. It's the mighty and second largest castle complex in the Czech Republic. The Tudor Hluboka Castle (an imitation of the British Windsor Castle) definitely is worthwile too. Let's get back on the road again, sometimes you'll be cycling directly along the Vltava, other times you get to admire it at a distance, cycling through a beautiful sloping landscape.

After a visit to the old and beautiful Tabor, follows the Konopiště castle. Then on to the mighty Karlstejn Castle where the previous monarchs kept their crown jewels. On the seventh day, you'll start making your way to the final destination, Prague. Would you like to explore everything Prague has to offer, like the Old Town, the New Town, the Little Side and the impressive Charles Bridge? We also offer the option to extend by one or more days.

Ceské Budejovice is the city of the world famous Budweiser. This Budvar beer is brewed here according to hundreds of years of tradition. The Americans have imitated the beer. But which one is the best? The locals prefer neither. They like to go for the local brand Samson. Besides their famous beer brand, Ceské Budejovice is also known for its central square, which is one of the largest squares in the country.

Hunting in luxury

Ever heard of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria? Those who lived through the First World War knew him all too well. The heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne was murdered in Serajevo in 1914, triggering WWI. Before that, in 1887, he had purchased Konopiště Castle and turned it into a luxurious residential palace. He mainly used the castle as a hunting lodge. You'll find about 300,000 hunting trophies there. We can only imagine what all those shot deer and pigs must have thought in 1914, what goes around comes back around?

Castle as a Precious Vault

The impressive Karlštejn Castle, located slightly southwest of Prague, was built in 1348 by Charles IV. “Here we go, a perfect place to keep my precious crown jewels.” The castle is now part of the Czech national heritage. During a visit, you can see, among other things, Charles IV’s private chambers, valuable furniture from the 14th to 19th centuries, the treasure chest, and a replica of St. Wenceslas’ crown.
