Through the Val Canale, you follow the railway bike path slightly downhill past some military forts (WWI) to Pontebba, where the bridge marks the old border between Italy and the Habsburg Empire. You continue the bike trail through a series of short, lighted bike tunnels high above the river Fella, which you cross via an old railway bridge. In Moggio, the railway cycle path ends and you cycle the final kilometres to the village of Carnia. Here, the Fella flows into the Tagliamento, which you follow for several kilometres upstream to the historic alpine town of Tolmezzo.
