North Thailand

Day 1 - Flight to Chiang MaiDay 2 Arrival in Chiang MaiThe city is known for the night market. Less well known is that Chiang Mai has more than 300 temples and that is almost as much as Bangkok. The most important temple is Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, which stands on the mountain of the same name of Chiang Mai (Doi Suthep). Day 3 Tour Chiang Mai with guide - 30 kmYou start your bicycle tour in Northern Thailand with a tour through the outskirts of Chiang Mai. This is a good way to show you the traffic in Thailand. You make the bike ride with a guide who shows you special non-tourist spots. In addition, the guide will focus on the everyday things of life in Thailand.Day 4 - Chiang Mai - Mae Taeng - 50 - 72 kmThe following day you follow the Ping river and leave the city. You cycle from ban (= village) to ban over country roads and unpaved paths along irrigation canals, of course each village has its own temple. You spend the night in a beautiful resort on the Ping River. Day 5 - Mae Tang - Chiang Dao - 37 kmThe next day you cycle through a rolling, narrow, wooded gorge to the valley of Chiang Dao. In the wide valleys a lot of rice and the most diverse exotic vegetables and fruits are grown. The views of the more than 2000 meters high Doi Luang are of great beauty. At the small market of Chiang Dao, mountain people sell their wares. The mountain peoples: Akha, H'mong, Lisu and Palaung live in the nearby mountains. They are originally from Tibet and southern China and have largely been able to preserve their own culture. Via the famous caves of Chiang Dao you cycle to your atmospheric resort in typical Thai style. Day 6 Transfer Tub Tao caves, - to Thaton - 69 kmToday you start with a 1-hour transfer to the Tub Tao caves and temple. From there you start cycling through a slightly sloping valley where, in addition to rice, many types of fruit and vegetables are grown. Only a ridge separates you from Burma here. This is the habitat of the Lahu, Lisu and Shan. Your final destination is lovely Thaton on the Kok River. Day 7 Boat trip - Cycling to Chiang Rai - 26 kmThe day starts with a boat trip on the River Kok through a beautiful landscape, an isolated area that is only inhabited by mountain peoples. The boat trip starts at your resort and lasts approximately 2 hours. In the village of Ruamit you will go ashore and cycle to the former royal city of Chiang Rai. The Hill Tribe Museum and the cozy night market in Chiang Rai are certainly worth a visit.Day 8 - Chiang Rai - Chiang Saen - 71 kmFirst you follow the river Kok for a while. Then you cycle via a beautiful cycle route to the oldest city of Thailand: Chiang Saen, located on the Mekong. Along the way you will pass rubber plantations, very unusual in this part of Thailand. Day 9 - Short transfer- cycling to Chiang Khong - 51 kmThe last days you cycle in the basin of the majestic river Mekong: the Golden Triangle. It is the border region between Thailand, Laos and Burma. This region was previously known and famous for its large-scale poppy cultivation.
You start today with a short transfer of 20 minutes. You follow the Mekong downstream. The route is sloping through a sparsely populated area with a beautiful view of Laos. Your destination is the border town of Chiang Khong
Day 10 Transfer - cycle to Chiang Rai 50 km - transfer to hotelFrom Chiang Khong you will first receive a transfer of half an hour. The first 20 kilometers you still cycle through a slightly hilly area. The remaining 30 kilometers are almost flat and you cycle on largely low-traffic, main roads. The day tour ends with a transfer of approximately 45 minutes to your hotel in Chiang Rai. Day 11 - Return flight via BangkokFrom Chiang Rai you fly back to Bangkok.Day 12 - Arrival at home
