Day 1 - Arrival in Westervelde and optional round trip to Veenhuizen - 16 kmYour sporty culinary tour starts in the village of Westervelde where you spend the night in the atmospheric country house hotel 'De Jufferen Lunsingh'. On arrival a short tour can be made to Veenhuizen, which as a former forced colony has a fascinating history that is told in its museum.Day 2 - Westervelde to Zuidlaren - 46 or 51 kmVia Roden and the Paterswoldsemeer you will cross the day after to Haren in Groningen with the largest Hortus Botanicus in the Netherlands, including a beautiful Chinese garden. Through the river valley of the Aa you will arrive in the green village of Zuidlaren with your hotel at one of the seven greenhouses. You will dine in one of the best restaurants in Drenthe.Day 3 - Zuidlaren to Odoorn - 57 kmFurther south you travel over the mystical Balloërveld, with burial mounds and herd of sheep, to Rolde where hunebeds and the museum of Bartje are the main draw. In the forestry Gieten you can (also partly underground) walk the 'Boomkroonpad'. Through the woods you can reach your hotel in Odoorn. You dine in an authentic village farm in nearby Valthe.Day 4 - Odoorn to De Schiphorst - 61 kmYour third cycling day goes westwards. Along the towpath along the Oranjekanaal through a beautiful and quiet dyeing area you will arrive in the museum village of Orvelte where time stood still for 100 years. Rural roads and paths lead you through the Holterzand, Ter Horsterzand and Dwingelderveld nature reserves. With an arc to the south along the old hamlet of Kraloo and the castle village of Echten. You cycle through the open pasture in the direction of Meppel. In the hamlet you will spend the night in an atmospheric 17th-century town with a sculpture garden.Day 5 - De Schiphorst to Westervelde - 66 or 69 kmThere are also beautiful Drenthe villages and nature reserves on your route on the last day of cycling. Northwards you will cross the Dwingelderveld and visit the beautiful green villages Lhee, Dwingeloo, Diever. After the sand dunes and fens of the Aekingerzand (with visitor center) you are in the Frisian town of Appelscha. You then cycle through the vast Fochteloërveen where a lookout tower offers you a wonderful view of the surroundings. You will return to Westervelde with or without a detour to Veenhuizen (prison museum), which started in the early 19th century as a colony for impoverished city dwellers.Day 6 - Departure
